THE BLECKKIRCHE - CHURCH OF CULTURES
The Bleckkirche is a listed church building in the Bismarck district. It is located in the immediate vicinity of one of the most beautiful zoos in Germany.
Johann Hermann Franz Graf von Nesselrode, lord of Grimberg Castle, had a church built in 1735, which was converted into a neo-Romanesque brick hall in 1888/89. The stone altar was created in 1574 for the castle chapel of Grimberg Castle and transferred from the castle chapel to the Bleckkirche in 1738. There is also a crucifix with the donor coat of arms of Heinrich Knipping, Lord of Grimberg, and his wife Sybille von Nesselrode. This is one of the earliest reredos in Westphalia to be influenced by the Reformation. The design, which is unusual in this region, is based on tomb designs by Cornelis Floris.
Today it serves as a “church of cultures” for intercultural work such as exhibitions, concerts, theater, readings and the like.
